Landscape Construction & Drainage Job in West Hartford, CT
The client had initially called us out due to water entering the basement. When we got to the property, it was clear to us the reason for the water intrusion was due to the slope of the backyard pitching directly towards the foundation of the property. We knew in order to solve this problem, we'd have to catch the water, and we presented the homeowners with a solution that would not only collect the water, but create a useable level upper turf area for their kids to play on.
Patio Outdoor Living Area
Our Client bought this property based off the incredible views this mountain side provides. In order to maximize the space, we installed a hedge 'Steeds Holly' to preserve the view, however, also proving enough privacy to be out of sight from neighboring properties and road traffic.
Nonetheless, with this property being cut into a slope, it was important to provide a useable turf area. This area was graded out, and we installed sod, and a landscape bed beside the garage to create a secluded area for patio entertainment.
Front Entrance Landscape
A gorgeous house deserves a gorgeous entrace. We lined the front walkways with Boxwoods, Little Lime Hydrangeas for foreground, and a background of Hinoki Cypress, Ivory Halo Red Twig Dogwood Shrubs, and Features including a Kousa Dogwood & Japanese Maple. A lot of thought went into the placement of every shrub, and we can't wait to watch this landscape mature over the years.
Hillside Retaining Wall
The retaining wall that hols back the hillside at the driveway was looking to industrial for our liking. We had to do something to soften this up. A hedge of Hamlen Grasses did just the trick, with a River Rock Landscape Bed. This bed is over 150' long, and makes quiet the statment!
The Most Challenging Part of This Landscape Project:
This property has a very tough topography, the front entrance from the private road is very steep. There is a hillside that both needed to both be beautiful & provide erosion control. Before we started this project, the hillside kept washing out from the rain, and we had to fix that.
